Bertani Operations Manager
Edufarmers Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to empower Indonesian smallholder farmers to build a sustainable, productive, and climate-resilient agricultural sector. Since 2015, Edufarmers Foundation has been working with thousands of farmers and youths across multiple provinces and commodities in Indonesia. This year, we are stepping up our effort and aiming to train and empower > 20,000 farmers.
Our Flagship Program, Bertani, Is a Joint-collaboration Program With Private Sectors To Build a Strong Farming Community To Improve Farming Productivity And Income. This Can Be Done Through 3 Main Activities Of Bertani
- Research and Trials: Continuously testing various SOPs, products, practices, and agricultural technologies that can serve as solutions to increase agricultural productivity and/or income. This will be done through our Plaza Bertani and Sentra Bertani demo plots.
- Education and Outreach: Discussing trial results and sharing various agricultural information and knowledge, creating shared knowledge. This will be done through building and maintaining Pelopor Tani micro-influencers network.
- Comprehensive Agricultural Solutions: Providing support facilities that meet farmers needs in carrying out agricultural cultivation. This will be done through our Bertani Store and Bertani Points system.
We are currently looking for Bertani Operations Manager to lead the on-the-ground implementation of Bertani Ecosystem. As Bertani is currently still on the pilot stage, expect that the paces will be very fast and there will be a lot of changes in the concept along the way.

Basic Information and Responsibilities
Employment type: 6-month contract, extension/permanent contract based on performance
Work location : Head Office (Jakarta, Indonesia), with frequent travel to sites
Function : Plaza Bertani
Seniority Level : Manager
Reporting to : Head of Agri Solutions
As a Bertani Operations Manager, you will mainly work on these three focus areas:
Open Bertani in new areas
- Liaise with necessary stakeholders to open new location (e.g., donors, local governments, private sector partners, etc.),
- Recruit, onboard, and train Field Technicians and Field Assistants to run Bertani daily operations: Plaza Bertani, Pelopor Tani, Bertani Store, etc.
Maintain operations in existing Bertani location
- Ensure the efficient operation of all Bertani operations (Plaza, Store)
- Refine and detail out planning from HO team into actionable plans.
- Monitor the implementation of Bertani activities and KPI through dashboard, report and working documents, and routine visit to Bertani areas.
- Perform continuous evaluation and debottleneck on-the-ground operations issue.
- Ensure delivery of operations, especially for the works that needs to be done from Head Office.
- Work together with Research and Knowledge team to design Plaza Bertani and Sentra Bertani farming SOP.
- Plan and oversee Plaza Bertani and Bertani Store events and initiatives to enhance customer engagement and drive success.
- Backup Field Technician and Field Assistant to coordinate closely with Pelopor Tanis, store owners to align goals and expectations.
- Work together with Finance Ops Officer to ensure steady operations fund.
Operationalizing new concept of Bertani
- Work together with Bertani HO team and implement new concept to further advance Bertani model.
- Quickly grasp strategic concepts and translate them into tactical plans for Bertani.
- Facilitate communication between the Bertani HO team and the operations team to ensure each party receives the necessary information.
Requirements
Requirements And Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience as Agronomy Manager/Sales Manager or similar role in agri-input companies.
- Good understanding in food crops (rice, maize) and horticulture crops (chili, potato) production.
- Good understanding in agri-input product knowledge.
- Experienced in pull and push marketing strategies on the ground.
- Strong leadership and ability to motivate, empower field team to improve their capability.
- Ability to collaborate with different kinds of people (in HO and field).
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with farmers, distributors, and retail partners.
- Ability to communicate complex information well in a simple and relatable way.
- Output-oriented to achieve the designated goal and KPI.
- Strong analytical skills to understand data and information, making them into actionable insights.
- Strong can-do attitude to find a way to solve problems, and decision-making ability for operational issues.
- Ability to adapt to frequent change and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to speak English is a plus.
