Business & Channel Development - Grant Writer Associate

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Grant Research: Identify and research potential funding opportunities from government agencies, local and international foundations, and other sources that support agricultural development and food security initiatives.
  • Proposal Development: Collaborate with program teams, subject matter experts, and other team members to develop comprehensive grant proposals. This includes drafting project descriptions, objectives, methodologies, timelines, and budgets.
  • Grant Writing: Write compelling grant narratives that effectively communicate the organization's mission, project goals, and intended outcomes. Ensure alignment with the priorities and requirements of prospective funders.
  • Budgeting: Work closely with finance and program teams to develop accurate project budgets and budget narratives for grant proposals. Ensure that budgets are realistic, feasible, and in line with proposed activities.
  • Grant Management: Manage the grant application process from start to finish, including proposal submission, follow-up communications with funders, and compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, funding agencies, and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector. Attend networking events, conferences, and meetings to identify new funding opportunities and partnerships.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Collaborate with program teams to develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks for funded projects. Assist in tracking project progress, collecting data, and preparing reports for funders and stakeholders.
  • Capacity Building: Provide support and guidance to colleagues on grant-related matters, including proposal development, budgeting, and reporting. Share best practices and lessons learned to enhance the organization's grant writing capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Development Studies, Internal Relations, Agriculture, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus).
  • Proven experience (min. 3 years) in grant writing, preferably in the non-profit sector with a focus on securing funding for agriculture-related projects or programs, and community development
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas and technical information in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize information from various sources and tailor proposals to meet funder requirements.
  • Proficiency in budget development and financial analysis. Experience with budgeting for grant-funded projects is an asset
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities effectively.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and grant management software/tools.
  • Passion for food security, agriculture, stunting/health issues is a plus point.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and derive actionable insights.
